Guest Post with author Dana Volney - Giveaway

The One Who Got Away by Dana Volney

What is so great about falling in love, losing that love, and then finding that one person again who made you better? While writing Protecting His Heart, I discovered a couple traits of the ‘lost love of your life showing up at your door’ story line that keeps me coming back every time.

The foundation of love is already there. The story jumps into the action, but the hero and heroine aren’t meeting each other for the first time. A history already exists that we need to unravel: dig deeper to find out the reason they fell in love, discover the root of the issues, and what fatefully broke them apart. It’s intriguing. The couple becomes a mystery wrapped in a suspenseful plot, like in Protecting His Heart, and you keep reading to find out about both.

The next morsel I’m drawn to is the vulnerability that lost love ultimately brings. The hero and heroine were different people years ago when they knew each other. They, sometimes, even had different lives. Now they have to reconnect and find out who each other is in the present day and what has changed—all while knowing that a person they could very well view as their enemy knows them, knows their dirt, knows their weaknesses. And that is scary. It’s harder to hide your feelings when the person you’re hiding them from knows your tells, your opinions, and your history. That’s when more spats and confrontations happen. People don’t love feeling exposed. When they can start to get past the vulnerability, that’s when they start to discover who the “new” person in front of them became, that they still have feelings for them, and grow to love them. It’s exciting all over again.

When two lovers converge again they don’t do so without bringing all of their baggage with them. Issues that were not only created in the relationship but also since the relationship ended. This puts their current situation and future at an unknown. What are they going to do?!? They could continue to despise each other, fight and then go their own ways. Or they could remember why they loved each other in the first place and start to get back into a rhythm and comfortable relationship. THEN they could take it one step further and work out their issues: figure out how to be better together and how to not go down the same road they had before that caused them to break-up. That’s the goal of the happily ever after – to make the hero and heroine a lasting couple. Which means bring on the swords and shields, it’s about to get crazy!

What plot line/trope is your favorite?

About the author:

Dana Volney lets her imagination roam free in Wyoming, where she writes romances and helps local businesses succeed with her marketing consulting company. Surrounding herself with good friends and family, and boating on the lake whenever she can, she thrives on moments and memories created with loved ones, especially on sun-filled days. That’s when Wyoming’s charm really sinks in. Dana is bold, adventurous, and—by her own admission—good with plants, having kept a coral cactus alive for more than one year. Find her on Facebook , Twitter: @VolneyVentures, Goodreads and Instagram.

About Protecting His Heart:

When a mission goes sideways and leaves seasoned spy Arabella Nox with valuable information and a terrorist on her heels, she seeks out the one person on earth she hopes won’t betray her: the husband she hasn’t spoken to in years.

Felix Ibarra thought he’d put his past behind him, so he’s shocked when Arabella shows up naked in his bed, warning him of an imminent threat. Then, to make things worse, she gets a job with his firm, Wyn Security, behind his back. It’s clear there’s more to her story, but trust doesn’t come easily to either of them.

Can Felix and Arabella work together to banish a mutual enemy, or will the deep emotions that tore them apart the first time be their undoing once again?

This sexy cat-and-mouse game between former lovers will keep you on your toes all the way to the surprising ending.
