Nalini Singh dives into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind-and none of the heart.

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of "rehabilitation" - the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was...

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion - and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities - or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.

My Review:

I was enthralled with the concept behind this novel. The species that we get to know definitely sparked my interest, as did the way that they come together and separate. Singh develops her world and characters gradually but fully. I enjoyed getting to know the Psy just as much as the Changelings. I appreciated how unique each species was and how intricate the story and history surrounding them was. The contrast between the beliefs and personalities of the different species also stood out quite shockingly.

Not only does Singh allow her readers to get up close & personal with the world she’s created & the species that live there, she has created some characters that will stay with you for the long haul. I loved getting to know the main couple. The chemistry between them is topped only by their selflessness when it comes to one another. Not only are the characters well developed but they’re the type of people that you instinctively want to get to know better. The discoveries that they make about themselves and the world around them makes them even more endearing. Don’t get me wrong. The Changelings are the ultimate Alphas, but they haven’t lost their humanity through it all.

Singh creates a world that you want to get lost in, using it as a backdrop for this fast paced, hot & suspenseful story. I’ll definitely be avidly continuing with this series. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
