My Review:

What a story! It was fast paced and action packed, wildly imaginative yet completely believable, incredibly hot & tenderly sweet. Forward’s fluid writing makes this story very easy to lose yourself in. Her descriptions and narrative bring the world to life in a vivid yet realistic manner that allow you to picture this going on right next door to you.

I found the bochnori to be one of the coolest concepts I’ve ever encountered in a novel. Forward did a fantastic job of developing in in an in depth and captivating manner that truly added to the story. I love the academic bent behind this story. It doesn’t detract from the action packed, magic filled past pace of the story, but it definitely adds a great deal for those of us so inclined.

As far as antagonists go, I really don’t like Terek. He’s the ultimate bad guy, right down to the creepy factor. I appreciate the fact that Forward develops all of the Magi as in-depth characters. They play key roles in the current story without overshadowing the main characters. And the main characters in this novel are out of this world. Separately they are unforgettable individuals, together they are unbeatable. I love the combination of raw & studied in Shay. She was a blast to get to know. Dakar’s conflict between long held beliefs and betrayals is poignantly set against his warrior personality. Together their explosive chemistry and heartbreaking history are unforgettable.

I devoured this in less than 24hrs (and went to work in there somewhere too, counting down the minutes until I could read some more). It held me captive to an extent not even reached by the Black Dagger Brotherhood. It was a fantastically unforgettable novel that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others and will definitely be rereading time & time again.
