My Review:

What a smooth, exhilarating, quick read, especially for a novella. Intrigue and plotting mix with murder and red hot romance to create an explosive combination. I was thoroughly hooked throughout. And speaking of explosive, the relationship that we find within was definitely that. It went from frigid to searing in record time, but it works perfectly within the framework of the storyline and for the characters involved.

I was floored as to how developed the characters in this novella were. None of the major players were the least bit superficial. Personally I tend to prefer the indepth characters that you can only find in full length features but this one worked quite well. You really get to see the intense inner turmoil that some of the characters go though. You can actually feel it.

As a whole this isn’t just your typical shifter romance. It was a brilliant way to get to know the author and I definitely can’t wait for more.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

After the events surrounding the Head of the Council's fall from grace, Misha has been banned from seeing his daughter and her best friend, Kaitlin, by her parents. But when Kaitlin comes calling, while her parents aren't home, with a "surprise", she's only too happy to leave with her friend.

Heading off into the unknown she's surprised when they arrive at Rhys' pack's new home, a mansion style house not too far from her own. When she bumps into Brent not long after arriving, she doesn't know what to do and runs but he follows, letting her know that he has no intention of letting her get away from him again.

Threats start arriving at the mansion a few days later, threatening Kaitlin's life and Misha realises she would do anything to keep her friend safe after the trouble she went through in the name of love. Of course, nothing ever goes to plan and with the reappearance of Raoul, you can guarantee there's trouble in store for Misha.

A story of friendship, strength and love.

My Review:

I definitely enjoyed reading about the budding relationship between these two characters that was hinted at in the first novella in the series. This novella is less focused on sex, and more on relationship building than its predecessor. It makes the novella feel more realistic, but still has the same can’t put it down, explosiveness (if not more so). It was also much more emotionally intense. Crabtree`s descriptions paint a mural for her readers without overpowering the emotional intensity of the work.

Crabtree takes characters that we got to know in the first novel (however in depth or briefly) and continues to develop them into fuller individuals. It was really nice to see more of some of the minor characters. Also, since Crabtree keeps her major cast rather small you don’t get lost in a sea of names. There are the characters that affect the story as a whole and then the rest of the pack.

As a whole, this novella really made me want to be a shifter. The level of commitment you see between individuals and among pack members has your heart pounding. I’d thoroughly recommend this to others and can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.
