My Review:

I love Guida’s writing style. Everything’s just there and you’re in it. She very accurately and intriguingly builds her scenes until they are vividly real. She also makes brilliant use of allusion and metaphor to paint an amazing scene. I didn’t just visualise this story, I lived it alongside the characters. Even though this novel is paranormal & historical in nature Guida has developed everything in such a manner that you are right there with the characters. She does a brilliant job of making this novel historical and pirate while being fun, unique and unforgettable.

The main characters were great. They were fully developed, well rounded individuals. I loved how they showed real & realistic emotions throughout. They were also the perfect contrast to one another. Although all of the secondary characters were well developed and suited their roles perfectly. I found some of them a little difficult to identify with, however that suited their roles in the story quite well.

Overall, this was a great read. Saying that I read this in 1 sitting is an understatement. The rest of the world dropped away while I was lost in its pages. I definitely can’t wait for more in this brilliant series. I would have continued on right then and there had I had any others. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone.
