Synopsis from Goodreads:

No one ever said love was easy...

Serenya Crowe may be a half-elf commoner, but she's no ordinary woman. With the ability to interpret dreams, and a birth defect that forces her to wear gloves, she's endured gossip and the cruelty of her husband, Sebastian, The Earl of Summerwind. All she's ever wanted is to live a quiet life and raise a family. When she meets the new stranger in town, her world and her heart, are turned upside down.

Wood-elf Jayden Ravenwing is an ex-secret agent who wants nothing more than to forget matters of the heart. He left the bustle of Leogard and his failed marriage to make a fresh start in Summerwind. He never planned to fall in love again, especially with the enchanting Serenya Crowe.

When a strange portal opens on the Crowe property, Jayden is thrown into an investigation, knowing that if he fails, Serenya and everyone in the town may die.

Together, he and Serenya must overcome an ancient evil, and their own inner demons, to save Summerwind and find the love they've always dreamed of.

My Review:

The fantastical world of Tallenmere becomes even more real with the different viewpoints and locales that we visit in this novel. It is completely unique and stands out in the world of fantasy. This story itself is more action packed than the first in the series and takes you on a wild ride. Action, adventure, and romance all play a large role in this well put together novel. That said, Parker also sticks with the same approachable writing style for this instalment. As a show not tell type of author she continues to use descriptions and narrative to form scenes that a reader can visualise.

True to form, Parker has created a fully developed, very unique cast of characters that span a variety of races and species. Some of the characters from the first novel in this series become further developed and you get to know them much better. The characters who return to us from the first Tallenmere novel mix with the new characters that we meet here. New and old characters are all completely developed and could hold their own as the main characters of a novel. That said, the man characters in this novel shine and stand out in a world full of exceptional individuals.

Overall, this novel kept me captivated throughout. I appreciate that each of the novels in this series are complete in and of themselves, yet leave you wanting more from these characters and their unique world. The stories themselves tie together perfectly and lead you on a remarkable journey.
