Brothers has a very straightforward and approachable writing style that carries the readers easily through this novel. This story almost made me cry, and definitely made me laugh. Brothers never fails to bring the humour of real life into her work. Her phenomenal descriptions build multiple worlds with ease and clarity. I also appreciate the fact that she changes her writing style in minute ways between these worlds. It makes it very easy to differentiate between these worlds and to picture them clearly. I also must give Brothers kudos for having created an entire mythology upon which to base her story. She does pull parts from different places, but as a whole this mythology is unique and nearly flawless.
I absolutely love the characters in this series. By the end of this novel I felt like these were people that I was friends with in school. I can’t believe how real to life Brothers made these supernaturals seem. Each character was consistent with themselves, with the role that they had to play in the series, and with their age. I really appreciate the fact that the teens in this series didn’t get married, engaged, or vow to stay together for eternity. They realise that they’ve still got the rest of college and high school to go and that life with change a great deal throughout those times.
Now, I do have to say that I really didn’t expect the twisty, turney, topsey turvey racetrack of a trip that we took here but it was phenomenal just the same. It was the perfect ending to this series, but I am very sad that I now have to let the characters go.
