Synopsis from Goodreads:

Rae knows how to look out for family. Born with a deformed foot, she feigns indifference to the pity and insults that come her way. Wary of all things beautiful, Rae instantly distrusts their latest visitor: an appallingly attractive faerie. Further, his presence imperils the secret her sister guards. But when the local townspeople show up demanding his blood, Rae must find a way to protect both her sister’s secret and their guest. Even if that means risking herself.

My Review:

This story was quite detailed for such a short story. The author manages to captivate you in a very short while. It was also very well written with a great flow.

It builds a great deal of background for the author’s upcoming series. You learn about settings and species that you will encounter in a very interesting way. It also gives you the back-story for the main character of this series. I immediately fell in love with her and wanted to dive into the rest of her story. It was also very refreshing to have dialogue written exactly how people talk.

Overall, this was a very nice introduction to the upcoming series that leaves you nothing but captivated by the author’s writing.
